General Introduction
This course plays a vital supporting role in adapting to the aging society and the evolving concept of health. As a core component of the Smart Health and Elderly Care Services and Management program, it focuses on studying and addressing both existing and potential health issues among the elderly. Through comprehensive assessments of seniors' physiological, psychological, and socio-cultural well-being, the course provides targeted care for their health concerns.
It intersects with disciplines such as Practical Assessment of Elderly Capabilities, Elderly Nutrition and Dietary Guidance, Practical Psychological Care for the Elderly, and Community-based Smart Health Management. By enhancing students' knowledge and methods in health-promoting elderly care, the course aims to maintain optimal health status and improve the quality of life for older adults. It is a mandatory subject for students in this major.

This Course is for
1. Helping trainees cultivate a professional ethos centered on dedication, respect for the elderly, and a sense of responsibility, with a primary focus on caregiving roles in settings such as senior care facilities, community care stations, integrated medical-nursing homes, and home-based care.
2. Enabling trainees to familiarize themselves with knowledge of the physical and mental health of the elderly, apply interpersonal communication and interaction skills, and accurately assess the physical functional status or impairments of older adults.
3. Teaching trainees to develop tailored care plans based on the physical characteristics and needs of the elderly, and implement services including daily living assistance, basic disease care, wellness activities, emergency response, and end-of-life care.
4. Enabling trainees to improve the physical functions and mental well-being of the elderly, maintain their optimal health status, and enhance their quality of life and self-care abilities.
5. Helping trainees provide necessary health education and psychological support to the elderly, fostering positive emotional states.
6. Cultivating in trainees a serious and responsible work attitude, the ability to identify and solve problems, a collaborative team spirit, adherence to the principle of "safety first," compliance with operational standards, and a focus on innovative service delivery.

1. Being able to explain the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly and identify environmental factors that affect their safety.
2. Being able to list daily life care methods for the elderly, summarize basic theories related to pressure ulcers and common urinary and bowel conditions, illustrate the significance and methods of pressure ulcer prevention, and describe the types and appropriate uses of assistive walking devices.
3. Being able to explain the psychological characteristics of terminally ill elderly individuals and their families, as well as the purpose of hospice care.
