General Introduction
This course introduces the morphological identification, damage diagnosis, and occurrence patterns of agricultural insect pests, mites, and plant diseases. It emphasizes both taxonomic foundations and field-based practical training, aiming to develop trainees’ professional competencies in accurate identification of harmful organisms,
analysis of occurrence patterns, and decision-making for integrated pest management. This course provides a solid foundation for trainees to undertake plant protection-related positions in the agricultural, forestry, and horticultural sectors.

This Course is for
1. Helping trainees accurately identify and diagnose major insect pests and pathogens in agricultural production, and master their key morphological characteristics and damage symptoms.
2. Enabling trainees to systematically understand the taxonomic status, distribution patterns, and field damage characteristics of major pests and diseases, and accurately distinguish among them.
3. Developing trainees’ ability to proficiently apply professional knowledge to independently analyze complex field pest and disease situations and make preliminary diagnoses.

Benefits of Learning

1. Being able to proficiently apply knowledge of taxonomy and pathology to accurately identify major insect pests, mites, and pathogens (such as fungi and bacteria) in agricultural and horticultural systems, and to correctly diagnose the associated damage symptoms.
2. Capable of conducting standardized field investigations and specimen handling, independently analyzing and evaluating the dynamics of pest and disease occurrence, and, based on ecological principles such as the disease triangle, performing preliminary risk assessments and making scientifically grounded control decisions.
3. Demonstrating strong professional competence and regulatory awareness, including adherence to plant quarantine standards, safe production practices, and sustainable management principles, with the capability to meet international requirements for precise diagnosis and integrated management of plant pests and diseases.
