General Introduction
The International Perspectives Webinar Series brings together distinguished experts and scholars from ASEAN and beyond to exchange insights on emerging ideas, critical perspectives, and innovative practices across disciplines. This edition explores “Ultra-Processed Food: Boon or Bane”. As ultra-processed foods become increasingly common in modern diets due to their convenience, affordability, and accessibility, growing concerns have emerged regarding their potential impact on health and well-being. At the same time, these foods can offer practical benefits in terms of convenience, shelf life, and accessibility.
This webinar invites participants to critically examine both the advantages and potential risks of ultra-processed foods and their role in contemporary food systems and lifestyles. Through keynote presentations, scientific perspectives, case studies, and interactive discussions, the session encourages cross-disciplinary dialogue and critical reflection on the relationship between food processing, nutrition, health, consumer behavior, and public health. Participants will explore the factors driving the consumption of ultra-processed foods, their potential benefits and health implications, and the importance of informed dietary choices in promoting healthier and more sustainable lifestyles.
