General Introduction

This course is closely aligned with the institution’s educational objective of cultivating highly skilled and professionally competent technical talents, and is designed for trainees majoring in finance, economics, business, and trade-related disciplines. Through systematic study, trainees will gain knowledge of the historical and cultural background of abacus calculation, its underlying principles and operational methods, and develop accurate coordinated calculation abilities involving both abacus operation and mental arithmetic. The course also provides foundational competencies in basic abacus and mental arithmetic instructional demonstration.

The course emphasizes the integration of the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage with the development of professional qualities, guiding trainees to understand the craftsmanship spirit embodied in abacus culture, including precision, rigor, and the pursuit of excellence. It further aims to strengthen trainees’ recognition of and appreciation for outstanding traditional Chinese culture, enhance their humanistic literacy and digital thinking abilities, and establish a solid foundation of knowledge, competencies, and professional qualities for future careers in finance-related fields, abacus and mental arithmetic education for children, or cultural heritage promotion activities. The course ultimately seeks to achieve the integrated educational objectives of skill inheritance, intellectual development, and professional empowerment.

This Course is for

1. Helping trainees understand abacus calculation as an item of world intangible cultural heritage, as well as the structure of the abacus as a calculation tool.
2. Enabling trainees to master the principles, methods, and operational procedures of abacus calculation.
3. Helping trainees master the use of the abacus for addition and subtraction operations.
